Buying A Truck So You Can Start Driving Long-Haul? 3 Important Items You Should Carry On Your Rig

If you've finally decided to purchase a semi and transition from short-haul to long-haul trips, there are some additional supplies you'll need to carry in your new truck. Long-haul driving is much different from the short trips you're used to driving. While you're preparing your truck for the long-haul life, don't forget to include some much-needed items for yourself. To keep yourself safe, healthy, and comfortable on the road, here are three items you should include in your truck.

Emergency Food Storage

You never know when bad weather or truck problems are going to leave you stranded. Don't get stuck far away from home without sufficient supplies to keep you going until you get moving again. Store at least a couple days' worth of food and water in your truck. You don't want to store so much that it puts your rig over weight once you add your load. However, you do want to store at least a couple cases of bottled water and some emergency food. If you're going to store canned food, make sure you keep a can opener on your truck as well. Your emergency food won't do you any good if you can't open it.

Earplugs

When you're a long-haul driver, getting the proper rest can be difficult. First, you never know where you're going to be sleeping. Second, you never know how noisy the place is going to be. The last thing you want is to have your sleep disturbed. To make sure you can sleep through the ruckus, keep at least one pair of earplugs on you at all times. As soon as you head back to your bunk to grab some sleep, put the earplugs on. People can be as noisy as they want outside, and you won't be disturbed. It's also a good idea to equip your sleeping compartment with blackout shades. That way, the lights won't disturb your sleep either.

Dash Cam

You might not think you need a dash cam, but on today's busy highways, it's a must. You never know when someone is going to try and outrun your truck or cut you off. If that happens, and an accident occurs, you're going to want a dash cam on your truck. Your dash cam will provide the evidence you'll need to maintain your save driving record, which is crucial when you're a long-haul trucker. Just be sure to activate it before each trip.
